MGR, Illyaraj, SPB still
blast !
First I thought to write a humorous,
sarcastic article exaggerating habit of Tamil people to celebrate
everything by putting loud songs on poorest possible quality speakers
in whole colony whole day / week or month of the event.
But as I am writing this, I realized I
am seriously angry on background score at 120dB & won't need to
exaggerate anything. These brainless activity has taken its toll &
needs to be punished by words in the way it deserves.
Be it a birthday of 6 month old,
pre-post evenings of marriage where two sweating souls hardly care
about love, or some ordinary pooja in a temple on 375 holy days
of the year or just anything of any sort; the first sign we get is
out loud horn speakers blasting poor Illyaraja at 5am. Same songs,
same sequence, same speakers everything same same same again &
again.... years by years.... Why there is such a desperate need to
announce what monster your in-laws are getting from next day? I can't
even say it is a racket by speaker shops as it is only one really
poor & obviously deaf chap renting these instruments all these
years.
Nobody asks Why so loud, nobody asks
why, nobody seem to care to change the pattern... Please guys have
some woofer & at least play latest hits ! May be we will stop
going pubs & have party in our terrace.
I am against of not particular aspect
of this activity like loudness or occasion, but in general this is
brainless following & competition to neighbor's idea of “having
songs” which he did last month when he got rid of his good for
nothing fatty daughter happily.
I realized I am the only one in the
proximity who gets bugged by this because all villagers have become
virtually deaf, dumb & paralyzed in their brain (if any). After 7
hours of harrassment, if I ask somebody “Why the songs are playing”
they strangely look at me & say,”which songs...There are no
songs” !
This is dangerous as whole generation
growing under shadow of this song is becoming like sheep & goats
who are becoming increasingly deaf & dumb. The nerves in their
ear will not notice these frequencies when they are adult & will
tend to talk louder & louder because nothing is enough.
Sorry to target Tamilians but can't
help guys, I am suffering all the time. I know slow poisoning of this
or other kind happening everywhere; in Maharashtra, Delhi, Vaishno
Devi...Even ladakh. By songs, by holy processions of god on road, by
pollution & smoke, by rude behaviour & many ways. I wonder if
any place is hospitable for a peaceful & free mind??? Will a
independent spirit be able to cope up with horryfying increasing
deafness & blindness everywhere?........ Will I?
I am afraid the answer is “I have
to”. And the solution lies only on receiver's end & not the
source by closing my windows tighter tighter, having walls thicker &
thicker, eventually creating shield of silence, atmosphere,
fragrances, & people we want & like.
Currently listening SPB's 72nd
song.... Hey lord, May there be 'Sense' introduced in south India OR
May I have money to purchase Active sound cancellation headphones
!!!
Well written Harshad. We all suffer, everywhere in the country. I can tolerate noise, we are loud people and cannot change that... but I cannot tolerate loudspeakers!
